Man dies after being hit by lorry outside Maidstone Hospital in Hermitage Lane

A man has died after being hit by a lorry outside a Kent hospital.

Emergency services were called to Hermitage Lane, Maidstone, at around 8.30am today after reports of an accident.

Police and ambulance crews attended.

The pedestrian, a man in his 50s, was declared dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been made aware.

Police have reported that the collision happened in the road.

They could not confirm what direction the lorry was travelling.

People who were driving to Maidstone Hospital faced delays after the accident blocked the road in both directions.

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells hospitals tweeted this morning, warning patients that there would be also be potential delays.

The road was reopened around six hours later.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who saw the collision, or the pedestrian’s movements in the moments leading up to it.
