Police were called to the shop in Upper Fant Road at around 12.25am.

The offenders had used crowbars and a large strap attached to a vehicle to try to steal the machine, but failed.

But they did make off with a large quantity of cigarettes and some food.

Two days later, two men and a woman were arrested in connection with the burglary.

They have currently been released on bail, pending further inquiries.

Detective Constable Max Gregory said: "We are appealing for dashcam footage from anyone who was travelling in the Upper Fant Road area of Maidstone between 9pm and 12.30am.

"We believe the offenders used two vehicles to arrive and depart in, which are described as a white estate and a dark 4x4, possibly a Land Rover."
