Maidstone: Midhurst Court residents fed up with visitors and taxi drivers using car park

People living in a tower block in Maidstone are being driven round the bend by former tenants selling on their residents’ parking permits to outsiders.

Residents at Midhurst Court are fed up with visitors and taxi drivers using their car park.

One permit is allocated to each property, despite many of the flats having more than one car owner.

The residents’ car park, which has around 20 spaces for 76 flats, is next to a council-run car park, off Mote Road.

Ten spaces are allocated in this public car park overnight in a bid to ease overcrowding.

But former tenants are selling on their residents’ parking permits to people working in the town.

When someone moves out of the property they are asked to return the permit.

However, many don’t and lease the bays to people who want cheap town-centre parking.

In response to the complaints, Golding Homes is revoking all passes and issuing new ones. They will have car registration numbers on them to prevent them being sold on.

The housing firm will also step up parking patrols in the hope of driving out offenders.

A Golding Homes spokesman said: “Midhurst Court is a town-centre apartment block and has parking for residents, but obviously town-centre parking is at a premium.

“We will review the parking situation one month after the changes are put in place, and if there are still issues we will consider our options again.”

Last month, a tenant was left with several injuries after the car he was travelling in crashed into five parked cars.

A man in his 30s was trapped under a vehicle in the car park before being pulled out and taken to Maidstone Hospital for treatment.

A police spokesman said that the incident, which took place on Sunday September 20 was not being treated as suspicious.
