Fire in greenhouse at Penenden Heath, Maidstone

Two fire engines attended a blaze in a greenhouse yesterday in Bannister Road, Penenden Heath, Maidstone.

The incident is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault. Crews used a high pressure hose reel to extinguish the flames in just 16 minutes.

The call came through at 11.54am. There were no injuries.

Maidstone Watch Manager Chris Puxted said: “I would recommend that people ensure electrical supplies (and fittings) to outside buildings are checked by a competent electrician regularly due to the harsh environment that they are exposed to such as damp and heat - especially in the case of glasshouses.”
