Can your school or group help Maidstone to bin the plastic bag?

Maidstone Town Centre management wants your help to rid the town of the environmentally unfriendly bags by the end of March.

Every bag sold will raise money to care for people suffering from terminal illnesses at the Heart of Kent Hospice.

And any school or community group which helps to make them can also keep a share of the proceeds.

Making the bags is easy - download a guide as a Word or pdf document by clicking here.

They can be made from any unwanted fabric such as curtain or clothing material.

The Bin the Bag scheme is being run by Maidstone Town Centre Management and is supported by the KM.

The first group to sign up for making a batch of bags is Hollingbourne WI, which already supplies bag for a scheme in their village.

Town centre manager, Bill Moss, added: “Hollingbourne WI have already put in sterling work with their bags in the village. But they are simple to make so we would love to hear from other groups who would like to play a part supporting the hospice and the environment.”
