Documents sent to Maidstone council propose to amalgamate the former Argos and budget chain - and it could create up to 70 new jobs.

If given the green light, it would result in a new 543 sq m being available for food sales.

A planning statement said: “Overall, the proposed development is considered to respect the character of the area, avoid any impacts on Maidstone town centre, and be in accordance with the relevant policies on transport.

“As such the development is considered appropriate.”

The store is at the London Road retail park which is home to a number of other businesses, including Dunelm and The Food Warehouse by Iceland.
