Police say he had obstructed the officers when they tried to complete a search and assaulted a constable and member of the public in the process.

Footage of the incident, which has been seen by KentOnline, shows the man being wrestled on the ground near KFC and McDonald's by police as people watch on and protest the force's actions.

A police spokesman said: "He was arrested and taken into custody. The 20-year-old from Maidstone was later released on bail to return to the police station on Friday, October 28."

It is another incident at the "lawless" part of the town centre which has seen security guards assaulted, stabbings and people attacked.
