Three arrested in drugs crackdown in Maidstone

Three people have been arrested as part of an ongoing operation to crack down on drug dealing in Maidstone.

Quantities of suspected heroin and cocaine are among the substances seized by officers during two separate incidents in the past week.

Yesterday an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old woman, both from the London area, were detained following reports of suspicious behaviour in St Peter’s Street.

Around 100 wraps were seized from a room they were believed to have been staying in. They were arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply and released, pending further investigation.

On Friday, 24-year-old Micah Harris was arrested in Albert Street on suspicion of supplying Class A drugs.

Harris, from Hackney, appeared before Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on Saturday charged with possessing heroin with intent to supply. He was bailed to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on July 14.

Maidstone District Commander, Ch Insp Mick Gardner said: “We are continuing to proactively target and arrest those who we believe are visiting our town with the sole intention of dealing drugs.

“Our use of both uniformed and plain clothes officers is making it very hard for criminals to operate in this town and there will be no let-up in our determination to keep these people of our streets.

“We need as many eyes and ears as possible to ensure our town remains a safe place to live and visit, so if you see anything suspicious, please make sure you report it to the police.”
