Celebrations for a thirtieth birthday turned sour when a fight broke out at a cabaret nightclub.

A group of 13 women had been enjoying a night of food, drinks and dancing at Victoria’s Cabaret Club, A20 Ashford Road, Harrietsham, but their evening was cut short when a fight began.

The woman who was celebrating her birthday, who did not wish to be named, said the night on Saturday, September 25, had been good fun up until the violence sparked between several other tables.

She said: "You could feel the animosity. There was a group on a table near us who were warning other parties that this was their territory.

"They warned a hen do which sat down behind us and a woman in the group tried to explain they had only just got there and was there for a good time."

The fight broke out shortly after midnight, an hour before the club closes, and the group described how two bouncers attempted to tackle about 20 people involved until the police and ambulance crews had arrived.

The women, who had paid £55 a head for a meal and all inclusive drinks, said it was obvious their night was over as the bar was immediately closed and the dance floor was covered in broken glass.

"It is a shame as we were having a really good night. The club did stress in the letter that nothing like this has happened like this in the 40 years that it has been there," she added.

Police confirmed they attended the incident at about 12.20am on Sunday, September 26.

Officers arrived to find a man with his injuries to the bridge of his nose and damage inside the club. An investigation has now been launched.

The owner of the nightspot said he would comment on the incident once the investigation had be concluded but said that nothing of this nature has happened within the last 40 years.

A police spokeswoman also confirmed that criminal activity was rare at Victoria’s.

Any witnesses should contact Kent Police on 01622 690690.
