Emily Royer has become the youngest winner of the Kent Ladies’ Championship.

The 16-year-old (pictured) took the title at Kings Hill Golf Club last week.

Dad Roy said: "She won 5&3 so it was fairly comprehensive. Being the youngest winner does add a bit of pressure but she’s such a relaxed golfer. She watches the world go by waiting for her turn and nothing fazes her too much.

"The Kent Championship has quite a following and she tends to enjoy it when people get themselves to the green to watch."

Royer, a member of Chart Hills Golf Club, wants to take up golf professionally and has attracted interest from colleges in America who are keen to offer a scholarship.

Roy believes his daughter has the talent to fulfil her ambitions. He said: "She is hoping to represent England soon but her main ambition is the golfing scholarship in America.

"Several colleges are interested and are coming over to watch her play in the big competitions this year."

Royer, a sixth former at Maidstone Grammar School, also played netball, tennis and cricket before deciding to concentrate on golf about 18 months ago.
