Trains cancelled and delayed after trespasser gets on tracks at Maidstone East railway station

A trespasser is causing disruption at one of Kent's main railway stations after getting on the tracks.

British Transport Police are carrying out a search at Maidstone East railway station.

Many trains have been delayed and cancelled due to the incident.

Network Rail Kent and Sussex tweeted: "Sorry for the disruption to Southeastern Railway passengers at Maidstone East – we’ve had to turn the power off to tracks through the station after reports of a person on the railway to the London side of the town.

"We’re working with the British Transport Police to get them removed asap."

While British Transport Police added: "We have officers at scene on the railway tracks at Maidstone east conducting a search of the area, we have asked for the assistance of the National Police Air Service at this time."

One commuter from London, who catches a train from London Victoria, fumed: "I can't believe my train has been cancelled."

Emergency services have been contacted for more information.
