SUPPORTERS of Liverpool FC living the county are in ecstasy today after their team snatched Champions League glory.

Liverpool were 3-0 down at half-time in their match against AC Milan in Istanbul before coming back to 3-3 and then winning on penalties.

Aileen Halstead, a life-long Liverpool fan who lives in Tonbridge Road, Maidstone, said: "It still hasn't sunk in yet. To come back like that was a marvellous feat.

"I woke up this morning wondering whether I dreamed it all. It must rank as one of the best ever comebacks in the history of sport, let alone soccer."

She stressed: "I just hope that the captain Steven Gerrard stays with the club. I can't see him leaving after this."

The victory also brought pride for soccer fans in Kent who don't normally support the new Kings of European football.

West Ham United fan Darryl Turl, 41, of Lacock Gardens, South Park, Maidstone, said: "It was a fantastic win. We are all Liverpool supporters today."

Conservative Party leader and Folkestone and Hythe MP Michael Howard is also a Liverpool supporter.

He said he had sent the club his good wishes ahead of the match and would be sending his congratulations now that they had pulled off what he described as an "incredible victory".

Police are praising the behaviour of Liverpool fans who celebrated in the city

last night. Thousands packed into public houses and clubs until the early hours of the morning. But there were only six arrests.
