A 20-year-old man has appeared before a court charged with manslaughter.

Jimmy Williams, of Bicknor Road, Maidstone, is accused of killing 35-year-old Daniel Beames. He appeared at Maidstone Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Mr Beames died in Maidstone Hospital on Sunday morning after an incident in Bell Shaw, Park Wood, Maidstone, on Friday evening.

Williams is now due to appear before a judge at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday, August 20.

A 17-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident at the weekend has been bailed until August 21 pending further inquiries by the police.

Members of the dead man's family have paid tribute to his "caring nature".

In a statement issued through Kent Police, they added: “We are trying to come to terms with the sudden, tragic loss of our son Dan. He was a devoted father and much loved son. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.”

His brother said: “I’ve lost my closest confidante and dearest friend. Dan was someone who lived his life to the full.

"The thought of him no longer walking around the corner with his quick and ready smile is difficult to grasp. He absolutely adored his children and was hugely generous to those he cared for.”
