Maidstone United manager Jay Saunders on Alfie Pavey transfer speculation

Maidstone boss Jay Saunders could be in the market for prolific Dartford striker Alfie Pavey.

Out-of-contract Pavey is a wanted man after scoring 26 times for the Darts in National South.

He also scored more than 100 goals for Maidstone's academy before joining Millwall five years ago.

Saunders stopped short of confirming interest but likes the player.

He said: "I know Alf really well and there'll be a lot of interest in him.

"He's someone I've watched closely this year but we've got a lot of targets.

"That year he went to Millwall he'd played a couple of pre-season games for me and trained with the first team.

"I've always liked Alf, he's a good lad and I've kept in contact with him."

Saunders has, though, ruled out a move for Bobby-Joe Taylor after the former Stones winger was released by Aldershot.

He said: "I don't think that'll happen. I get on really well with Bobby but I'm not sure that's an area I'm looking for at the moment."

Saunders also confirmed he has no interest in Margate's 30-goal striker Jordan Chiedozie, who is leaving Hartsdown Park.

Meanwhile, Maidstone will have to play the long game if they want to bring former loanee Alex Finney back to the Gallagher.

QPR have released the centre-half but he intends to explore his options.

Saunders said: "Finney's been really good, really honest.

"He said 'I need to go away, have a think, see what's on the table and go from there.'

"He's one that if it happens it's going to take a little while.

"Although we didn't have the best second half of the season there's still good players who people will be interested in.

"There's a lot of young players, too, and if people weren't aware of people like Finney before, they are now."
