Stones handed potential Kent derby in FA Cup draw

Maidstone have been given home advantage in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round - with a potential Kent derby in prospect.

The Stones, who won 4-1 at Halesowen last Saturday, will host Dover or AFC Wimbledon on October 25.

Andy Hessenthaler's Dover held Blue Square South AFC Wimbledon to a goalless draw at the weekend with the replay due to take place on Tuesday night.

Stones joint-boss Lloyd Hume said: “No disrespect to Dover, who are a very good side, but we would rather play them than AFC Wimbledon who are pretty-much full-time these days.

“They are two quality teams and either way it will be a mammoth task but I am confident we can get through if we perform on the day.”

He added: “A lot of teams from our level have got much tougher games than us. It could have been more unkind.

“It will be tough but I think if we play to the level I know we can then we can get something from either of them.”

He said he didn’t mind a home draw at Bourne Park, despite the Stones fine performances away from home this season - culminating in Saturday’s cup win in the West Midlands.

Hume said: “I know people talk about our home form but it has really not been that bad and if we were to play at AFC Wimbledon or Dover then the atmosphere would be even more hostile.

“We want to give a good account of ourselves and we are desperate to get into the 1st Round.

“Whoever we play it will be a cup final atmosphere, that’s for sure.”

Kent's only other interest in the draw is Ebbsfleet United, who have been given a tough away game against Woking.

FA Cup fourth qualifying round draw: Maidstone United v Dover Athletic or AFC Wimbledon, Woking v Ebbsfleet United (ties to be played on October 25).
