Malling Lions at wheel for this year’s Wrotham Classic Transport Rally on June 25

Motor buffs have a treat in store this summer.

The Wrotham Classic Transport Rally is back for its 42nd appearance and will take place at the top of Wrotham Hill on Sunday, June 25.

The rally will have the traditional mix of vehicles including classic cars, commercial vehicles, a military section, motorbikes, vintage tractors and steam engines. There will also be American cars and an autojumble sale.

But while much will be familiar, the show is under new guiding hands this year, with the Malling Lions taking over the reins from the Friends of Wrotham, which ran the previous shows.

Neil Cornford of the Lions said: “We were looking to push our boundaries a little bit and have our own headline event as it were, so we were happy to take over when the Friends asked.”

Already 600 vehicles are booked to appear and previous shows have attracted crowds of between 4,000 and 5,000 visitors.

The event will be a family day out with other entertainment including an inflatable assault course, donkey rides, a ride in a trailer behind a steam wagon and plenty of catering stalls.

A family ticket is also available at £25 (or £20 in advance).

Full details can be found here.

All proceeds will be re-distributed to good causes locally.

The first show was held in 1979 in the grounds of Yaldham Manor.
