Police were called at around 2.50pm on Wednesday after concerns for a man's welfare before they made the discovery.

The RSPCA has been at the house every day for the past week and confirmed dozens of dogs and puppies are now in their care.

A spokesman said: "RSPCA rescuers were asked to attend an address in Pump Lane last week, and a number of dogs and puppies were removed from the property and are now in our care.

"We’re still looking into this and unfortunately can’t say any more at this time."

A police spokesman added: "A man was found deceased and his death is not being treated as suspicious.

"His next of kin have been informed and a report has been prepared for the coroner."

Neighbours were aware the man kept dogs at the house but not how many.

He is thought to have lived in the bungalow at the lop of Pump Lane for many years and was described as a good neighbour.

One said: "He helped people out. He would always come round and help you. He was quite a clever man."
