Two brothers arrested in Kent after acid was thrown in a woman's face - leaving her blind in one eye - are facing jail.

Carla Whitlock was attacked with drain cleaner containing sulphuric acid on September 18 last year.

Brothers Billy and Geoffrey Midmore, who were arrested in Gillingham a few days after, have now been found guilty of the attack.

Southampton Crown Court heard the acid was thrown in the 37-year-old’s face in revenge after a drug deal went wrong.

A jury found Billy Midmore, 22, guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. His brother, 26, had previously pleaded guilty to the same offence.

The pair, from London, are due to be sentenced at a later date.

Carla Whitlock was attacked in Guildhall Square, Southampton.

Billy Midmore had denied any involvement in the attack but had admitted sending Ms Whitlock threatening texts after his brother was robbed of £2,000 worth of drugs and cash.

He had also denied being present during the attack and said the acid was bought to unblock a toilet.

During the trial, the jury heard Geoffrey had sent a photograph of the bottle of drain cleaner on WhatsApp to an acquaintance together with the words: “This is one face melter.”

The pair were arrested at about 10.45pm on Sunday, September 27 and charged after police were granted more time to question them.

Their arrests came hours after detectives offered a £5,000 reward for information leading to the capture of the brothers following the incident outside the Turtle Bay restaurant.
