Body found at Langdon Cliffs in Dover in search for missing Douglas Harris, from Hoo

A body has been found in the search for missing man Douglas Harris.

The discovery was made in the water at the bottom of Langdon Cliffs in Dover yesterday evening.

The family of Mr Harris, who was reported missing two days ago, have been informed.

The 53-year-old, from Hoo, was last seen at Morrisons supermarket in Strood at 3.45pm on Wednesday.

Police issued an appeal to help find him yesterday morning after concerns were raised about his welfare.

Emergency services including the police, ambulance crews, Dover Coastguard, the RNLI and the coastguard's rescue helicopter were called to Langdon Cliffs after reports a body had been seen in the water last night.

The remains were discovered 20 to 30 yards from the base of the cliffs, to the east of Dover Harbour.

Mr Harris's black and white Kymco scooter is said to have been found nearby.

A police spokesman said: "At 7.29pm on Thursday 14 July Kent Police was called to a report that a man’s body had been discovered in water near Langdon Cliffs in Dover.

"Officers attended the area, as did a lifeboat crew and the Coastguard.

"Formal identification of the body has not yet taken place however the family of Douglas Harris, who was reported missing from Hoo on Wednesday 13 July, have been informed."

James Clapham from the RNLI added: "We were deeply saddened by the outcome of last night’s launch to a person in the water.

"Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the male recovered."
