Medway residents to have say on Local Plan proposals

Residents will get chance to influence future development in Medway at a series of upcoming events asking for feedback on the proposed Local Plan.

Seven consultation meetings will take place throughout the Towns in October, starting at Strood Community Hub.

They will enable residents to meet and speak with members of the planning team and contribute to the discussion of how the designs should be shaped.

The Local Plan designates which areas are for what uses, such as housing, commerce, and green spaces, as well as setting goals for development and improvements to infrastructure and public services planning.

The last version was put in place in 2003 and attempts to develop a new one stalled because of disagreements in the last administration.

The current stage of the process is understanding the needs of residents so that a plan can be designed that is reflective of the Medway people want.

The council is considering all possible options, particularly relating to housing because of a need to meet the government house-building target of 28,000 homes by 2040.
