Part of a Strood park has been destroyed after flames swept through the woods.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in Broomhill Park, off King Arthur's Drive, at 6.45pm on Monday.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said an area of trees, measuring about 20 square metres was alight.

He added: "We had quite a trek from the road to access the woods so to tackle the fire we had to use special backpacks which are filled with water."

The blaze is thought to have been caused by a camp fire that got out of control.
