Greenacre Academy Trust welcomes Walderslade Girls' School to group

Walderslade Girls School has joined Greenacre Academy Trust.

Following consultations with parents and the local community the girls’ school on Bradfields Avenue, will keep its name, uniform and staffing structure.

It will also stay as a single sex school from year 7 to 11 and have the mixed sixth form with Greenacre Academy.

Dr Fraser Campbell, head teacher of Walderslade Girls School, said “Joining Greenacre Academy Trust allows us to build on the very successful collaborative work that already exists within the joint sixth form, cascading this to all of the Key Stages.

“It will create new opportunities to share curriculum development, moderate work between schools and plan to tackle future changes within education together.

“A small number of parents expressed some concerns during the consultation period about the new school day pattern we have adopted as part of joining the Trust and we will review this in March 2019 to assess how effective it has been.”

The trust already runs Warren Wood Primary Academy, Chantry Community Academy and Hilltop Primary Academy.

“We have already worked with them successfully in our joint sixth form and I am sure that the school joining the Trust will be of benefit to all of us.

“It will enable staff to move between schools to enhance their professional development.

“New opportunities will be created for support staff to develop their expertise within expanded Trust-wide roles while opening up the teaching expertise of all of the staff from both schools to the benefit of 1800 pupils.

“It will strengthen the already strong examination success of pupils at KS4 and in the Sixth Form and help to create an increasingly harmonised school experience for parents with children in both schools.”
