Detectives are investigating a woman's death after she was rushed to hospital at the weekend but died on Monday afternoon.

Police and the ambulance service were called out to an address on the Isle of Grain on Sunday and took the woman, who has not been named, to Medway Maritime Hospital, in Gillingham.

Despite emergency treatment the 53-year-old died the following day.

It is not known what caused her death but police have denied rumours circulating in the area that she had been stabbed.

A spokesman said: "Kent Police is currently investigating following the death of a 53 year-old woman. The woman was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital on the afternoon of Sunday, July 3 but sadly died in hospital yesterday.
"No arrests have been made in relation to the incident and a post mortem is due to take place on Wednesday, July 6."
