Gillingham hit-and-run driver Daniel Richards admits injuring woman on pavement

A hit-and-run driver who mounted a pavement and ploughed into a pedestrian has admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Daniel Richards, 34, of Selbourne Road, Gillingham, hit the victim while she was walking down Napier Road, Gillingham, just before 11am on Saturday.

He fled before emergency services got there but was arrested at around 1.40am on Monday.

The injured woman, who is in her 40s, sustained a serious back injury and was airlifted to hospital, where she remains in a stable condition.

Richards was subsequently charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving and admitted the offence during a remand hearing at Medway Magistrates’ Court today.

At the hearing he was further remanded in custody and will appear for sentence at Maidstone Crown Court on a date to be determined.

A 32-year-old woman from Gillingham was also arrested in connection with the collision and has been bailed, pending further enquiries, until May 30.
