Man attacked at taxi rank

A YOUNG man was seriously assaulted while waiting for a taxi in Chatham. The 23-year-old victim was waiting in a taxi queue in Railway Street when a man approached him and asked him what was in his bag.

When the victim told him to go away, the offender began to verbally abuse him before assaulting him. The victim, who has not been named, can only remember being picked up from the ground by other members of public in the queue.

He was taken to hospital after the attack on Wednesday, April 10, and treated for bruising and a cut above his left eyebrow.

Sgt Tim Cook said: "Anyone who was in that taxi queue and who saw this incident should contact Medway Police immediately. This was a nasty attack and we are very keen to trace the identity of the offender."

The thug is white, in his mid 30s with short, dark hair and about 5ft 10ins tall.
