Motorist in custody after being stopped by police on the A2 at Gillingham after earlier crash

A motorist is in custody after being arrested at the scene of a crash which happened in Gillingham, yesterday.

The man was stopped by police as he drove long Will Adams Way, at about 4.15pm after an earlier crash at the roundabout on the A2 near the Honourable Pilot pub.

Police were initially called out to the A2 Sovereign Boulevard at about 2.15pm after an unrelated car crashed into traffic lights just before the roundabout on the Chatham-bound carriageway.

While officers were still at the scene they stopped another vehicle driving in Will Adams Way, at around 4.15pm.

The driver, a man in his 30s, is reported to have refused to give a breath specimen when requested to do so by police.

A spokesman for police, said: “He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit, assaulting a police officer and possessing an offensive weapon with intent to cause harm.

“He remains in custody as enquiries continue.”
