Man talked down from bridge

A man has been talked down from the railway bridge over the River Medway after threatening to jump.

Emergency services were called shortly before 11am today.

Police, paramedics and an RNLI lifeboat crew were scrambled to the Gas House Road area of Rochester after someone spotted the man.

An RAF rescue helicopter was also been sent to the scene and landed in a field in Borstal.

By about 2.30pm, police had talked down the man and taken him into custody.
