"My son went out at 7.30pm with his friends and they saw him," said the mum-of-four, who asked not to be identified.

"They pinned him up against the car, then one of them beat him up. When we picked my son up he was bleeding."

The woman claims she was also attacked in front of her young children, saying her nine-year-old daughter had to speak with the emergency operator.

"My son is traumatised, he's only 16," she said. "He doesn't go out looking for trouble. He's literally just done his GCSEs and is waiting to go to college. I'm sickened by it all.

"I'm sickened by the fact we've been dragged into something that's nothing to do with us.

"I've got a big black eye, and my son's got a big black eye.

"I'm not having it sugar-coated - if you beat people up for no reason you need to get your comeuppance."

A 23-year-old man from Chatham was arrested yesterday on suspicion of assault.

A 52-year-old man from Rainham arrested on Friday on suspicion of possessing an air weapon with intent to cause fear of violence, has since been released on bail, as has a 21-year-old woman from Rainham, arrested on suspicion of assault.

All three have been bailed until Thursday, July 25.
