Driver and passengers of car run away from officers after a car chase through streets in Chatham

A police chase ended up with the occupants of a car running away from officers after it was spotted driving erratically in residential streets in Chatham.

Officers in a police patrol car spotted a Volkswagen Golf being driving erratically in Dale Street, shortly before 3.30pm today.

The car, which is believed to have had four people inside, was then followed by the patrol car along Rochester Street.

It was pursued to Holcombe Road where the driver and passengers abandoned the vehicle and made off.

Officers remain in the area and are searching for the driver.

One witness who saw the chase, but didn’t want to be named, said: “I saw the Golf being driven at speed along Rochester Street.

"It was going so fast I couldn’t even tell what colour it was.

“The police car has it lights and sirens on and was following it up the road.”

A spokesman said: “Patrols spotted a car being driven erratically in the Dale Street area of Chatham at about 3.25pm.

“The vehicle did not stop and was pursued to Holcombe Road where the passengers are reported to have abandoned the vehicle.”
