Police issue advice after spate of vehicle thefts across Medway

Police officers are reminding motorists to take valuables out of their cars after six vehicle thefts were reported in the past week.

A chainsaw was reported to have been stolen from a vehicle in Baden Road, Gillingham, between 8pm on Sunday, September 25, and 6am on Monday.

A garden strimmer was also reported stolen from a vehicle in Wordsworth Close, Chatham, between 5pm on Tuesday, September 20, and 9am on Saturday, September 24.

Thefts have also been reported from three vehicles in Broadway, Culpepper Road and Winchester Way, in Gillingham. Another theft was also reported in Gordon Road, Chatham.

All the thefts are alleged to have occurred at various times between Monday, September 19 and Tuesday, September 20.

The items reported stolen include workman's tools such as drills, steel cutters and sunglasses.

No arrests have been made by inquiries are ongoing.

Police have issued a number of tips for motorists to try and prevent more vehicle thefts.

Advice includes, making sure vehicles are locked securely, removing all valuables such as tools, sat navs and mobile phones and making sure any items which are left in the vehicle are out of sight.

They also suggest having your valuables security marked so they are harder to sell on if they are stolen.
