This weekend Kent’s County Town is hosting one of the biggest musical events of the year.

More than 3,000 people from Medway will be joining 31,000 lucky free ticket holders from across the UK at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Mote Park, Maidstone. More than 500,000 applied.

The two-day festival features some of the biggest stars of 2008, with Madonna and The Kooks topping the bill. Other bands include newcomers the Ting Tings and Vampire Weekend.

On Monday the print edition of the Medway Messenger will publish pictures and reviews from the event.
