Mick Ferris: 'Heartbroken' son pays tribute to Medway coach driver who died after window fell from Corniche apartments in Vauxhall

The son of a coach driver who died in a freak accident in London yesterday has paid tribute to his "lifelong idol".

Mick Ferris, 53, from Hoo, was passing the 27-storey Corniche tower apartments in Vauxhall, when he was struck by what is thought to be a window pane which fell 250ft from the newly built block.

The grandfather was pronounced dead at the scene.

This morning, Daniel Ferris has paid tribute to his dad - a committed West Ham fan.

"I love you so much dad and I'll think about you every day. My lifelong idol. Always in my heart and mind" - Daniel Ferris

Daniel wrote on Facebook this morning: "Yesterday my family were shocked by the news that my dad's been killed suddenly in London.

"Heartbroken isn't the world to describe how myself and the family feel.

"I love you so much dad and I'll think about you every day. My lifelong idol. Always in my heart and mind."

A spokeswoman for Clarkes of London said: "We are aware of reports in the news of a tragic incident in London yesterday involving the death of a man who is named as our driver.

"The police are yet to officially confirm the victim’s identity and we wish to respect the family’s right to privacy in not releasing any details without their permission.

"Our thoughts and sympathy are with the family at this difficult time."

A Health and Safety Executive spokesperson said: “HSE is aware of the incident at Albert Embankment and making initial enquiries alongside Met Police.”
