Suspect object in Chatham identified

Emergency services were called to Chatham Riverside after a suspect object was spotted in the mud.

Someone raised the alarm at about 10.30am today (Thursday) after they saw what they thought was an unexploded bomb near The Command House pub.

Kent Police and a team from Medway Coastguard were on the scene but soon discovered the ‘bomb’ was in fact just a gas cylinder.

A spokesman for Medway Police said: “The object was assessed by our officers and not thought to be a bomb. It was then recovered by the coastguard who identified it as some sort of gas or oxygen cylinder and completely harmless
