Fire at Pizza Bello in Victoria Street, Gillingham

Fire crews battled for more than 90 minutes to put out a blaze at a takeaway shop in Gillingham.

Crews needed breathing apparatus as they sought to beat back the flames, at Pizza Bello in Victoria Street.

Four fire engines were sent to the scene.

The fire in the two-storey building, which includes a flat above the shop, broke out at around 6.55pm.

Witnesses said fire crews left the scene at around 8.40pm.

Police cordoned off the area to divert traffic away from the scene.
