Athletics squads face stiff challenges

SURVIVAL is the target for Medway & Maidstone men’s team manager, John Taylor, and women’s team boss Ann Mole in Division Three of the British Athletics League this summer.

The men finished 2003 as runners-up in Division Four to win promotion for the second successive season.

This summer the opposition will be Bedford, Edinburgh, Sheffield, Stoke, Rugby and Northampton, Swansea and local rivals Kent AC.

The men start their 2004 campaign at Sheffield on May 8 with further fixtures at Cwmbran on June 5, at Bedford on July 3 and Stoke on July 31.

The women remain in Division Three from last year and start their season at Norwich on June 6 with further challenges at Newport on July 4 and locally at Ashford on August 1.

Medway and Maidstone AC remain the only Kent club to simultaneously field both men’s and women’s teams in the UK National League this summer.
