Chatham Town chairman Kevin Hake not in any rush to replace manager Scott Lindsey

Chatham Town chairman Kevin Hake insists they are in no rush to replace departed manager Scott Lindsey.

Hake has taken over management duties on a caretaker basis along with director of football Carl Laraman - a coach who spent nine years at Charlton and 13 years with Arsenal.

Lindsey has just taken on an assistant manager role at League 2 Swindon Town but Mr Hake doesn’t want to see all of the good work at Chatham undone.

“We are not looking to reinvent the wheel here as there is a successful formula that works,” said the club chairman.

“Carl has a great rapport with the lads on the training ground and with only days to go before the start of the season we certainly won’t be rushed into any decisions on a new manager.

“We are conscious of not bringing a new manager in who decimates the players, backroom team and style so that is why myself and Carl and the team are taking the reins until a suitable candidate is found.

“The club’s desire to win leagues, cups and trophies has not changed. In fact it’s made me more determined to get the club into the Football League so a repeat of this situation doesn’t happen again.”

Chatham Town start their Southern Counties East Premier Division campaign at Deal Town this Saturday.

Their first game since Lindsey’s departure was announced came on Saturday with the team holding National South Welling United to a goalless draw. Chats ended the game with five players from their youth section involved.

Hake sad: “The lads went out on Saturday and put a great industrial performance against a decent Welling United side and apart from not getting a goal it was the perfect way to respond to what has been a testing week for everyone involved at the club.

“We have a few injuries in the camp so we will be nursing them back to fitness in the forthcoming weeks but for now our focus is getting everything right for the trip to Deal away on Saturday.

"This is quickly followed up with a game at home versus Canterbury and it’s the FA Cup the week after so games are coming thick and fast so it’s important we get off to a good start.”
