Gillingham defender Max Ehmer says goals are a team responsibility after side's second successive blank

Defender Max Ehmer insists the lack of goals is a shared responsibility.

The German centre-back has helped the team become solid at the back but knows they also need wins on the board.

Gillingham have failed to hit the target in the last two games.

He said: “It is good as a defender to have five clean sheets from six, but disappointing to not be scoring as many goals as we could be and getting wins.

“As a defender you can’t do a lot more but it’s a team thing and we go up for set pieces and can contribute to the goals as well.

“First and foremost we have to concentrate on getting a clean sheet and we have done that well lately.

“Chances haven’t come our way but Luke (Norris) had a good chance (against Sheffield United) and the guy said it hit his hand. On another day it gets deflected in or is given as a penalty. We are just waiting on a little bit of luck.

“They say, ‘if you can’t win the game, don’t lose’ and that is what we have been doing.

“It could have been easy to go to Sheffield and give away a goal but everyone held their own and contributed to keeping a clean sheet, from Nelson to Rory Donnelly, it was everyone. A team effort.”
