Gillingham take on Andy Hessenthaler's Dover Athletic at Crabble in pre-season

The action continues for the Gills on Tuesday night.

Gillingham’s first team players faced two games in 24 hours over the weekend, against Championship sides Charlton and Millwall.

They were back in on Monday to prepare for another test, against Andy Hessenthaler’s Conference side Dover.

“The players were in on Monday and the recovery is important, especially now, just as important as it is to get the minutes” said Gills’ assistant Paul Raynor.

“We have all the facilities to recover and we go again to Dover. We will have a good look at data, try and be fresh and ready to go and it will be nice to see Hessy. We haven’t seen him for a while, we’re looking forward to going there.

“It will be a different type of challenge.

“It was important to get through those two games (against Charlton and Millwall) and hopefully we have come through unscathed injury-wise, which is absolutely massive.

“If we lose three or four players then we’re really snookered, so it is important we manage the loads, that is crucial and the fitness department have been brilliant at that in terms of the data and the recovery. THey will be massive in terms of getting the boys freshened up to go to Dover.”

Matty Willock missed out over the weekend as he had a virus.

Raynor said: “Matty wasn’t quite right and there is no point pushing him and setting him back. We need to get him 100% and hopefully he will be involved Tuesday.”

Tuesday's game kicks off at 7pm.
