Gillingham’s game at Stevenage fell victim to the wet weather on Saturday.
On Thursday the Gills players were training in temperatures in the mid-30s but found their game at Stevenage washed out.
Stevenage are currently building a new stand and that has hampered the club’s drainage.
The game at the Lamex Stadium stadium was called off at midday because of the waterlogged pitch.
A club statement from the League 2 side said: “The drainage systems at The Lamex Stadium have been partly closed off whilst work on the new North Stand drainage takes place and have been unable to cope with the extremely heavy overnight rain.
“With more forecast to fall throughout the course of the day, the only safe and sensible decision for everybody involved is to call the match off.
“The club apologises for any inconvenience caused.”
Steve Evans may now opt to send a stronger side to Welling United on Monday night, for their final pre-season match of the summer.
Gillingham had been in action the night before, playing out a 1-1 draw with Southend United.
A young Gills team played out a 1-1 draw with Sheppey United on Saturday, with Josh Rees scoring a late equaliser.
