TERRY THORNBY: trainer says he has "got to produce the goods"

YOUNG Medway boxer Terry Thornby will bid for a finals berth as he heads west for the NABC semi-finals this weekend.

Thornby will take on Jamie Cox (Walcott) in the under-60 KG Class C semi-finals in Bristol and trainer Charlie Rumble says his charge is looking good.

He said: “He’s been training hard in the gym. He’s had some good sparring sessions so it’s all up to him now. He’s confident but he has got to produce the goods.”

But that’s just the start of a busy day for the St Mary’s boys. After Thornby’s bout on Saturday morning they will head to Exeter for a match against a Western Counties squad.

Jack Raines, Bobby Box, Steven Harding, Billy Rumble, John Shearer, Jordan Hicks, Steven Convey, Sam Cairns, Joe Wood, Jamie Laird, Levi Hegarty and Billy Thornby make up the St Mary’s select squad.

Rhys Simmons is also in action in the next week as he boxes at the Eltham show on Monday.

* The club have also announced they will stage the regional finals of the National Schoolboy Championships at Strood Sports Centre on Saturday, February 14.
