What do you get if you put together cardboard, chicken wire, egg boxes, old sheets and golf balls? A pantomime horse!

Staff at the Duke of Cumberland hotel in Whitstable have put creative talents to good use for their entry in this year’s Whitstable Races.

The pantomime horse derby is taking place at Tankerton Slopes on Sunday, June 1, organised by the Rotary Club of Whitstable.

Duke of Cumberland tenant Miggie Ravenscroft said: “So far we have spent a week making the horse.

“We have spent very little on its construction and everything is from recycled materials, cardboard, chicken wire, egg boxes and old sheets with golf balls for the eyes."

Miggie added: “We are hoping that this year’s entry will be 'well backed’ by our regulars and do well in the races.”
