Opening all our doors

Househunters in Kent have a unique opportunity for the ultimate nose-around – as the county sees the UK’s first ever mass open house day.

At 11am on Sunday, January 25, doors will be thrown open at 150 houses, virtually all the Kent properties on the books of estate agent Strutt and Parker.

Everything from enviable Wealden farmhouses to smart commuter townhouses will be up for scrutiny, no doubt all looking their tidiest, in what the agent has dubbed Kent Open House Day.

If the day is a success – against a nationwide background of challenging times for house sales – it may be repeated in other counties.

Edward Church, partner of the firm’s Canterbury office, said: "We believe that this is the first time in the UK that such a user-friendly open day project has been trialled.

"The intention is to make it easier for buyers to visit many homes on the same day, without feeling the need to linger at one that they doesn’t feel right.

"I encourage visitors to fit in as many houses as they want on the day – we can always arrange a return visit to the favourites.

"There won’t be any pressure to rush around the perfect house just to get to your next appointment. And if you visit one that you don’t really care for, you can move on to another.

"Sellers who are serious about selling expect their agents to come up with forward-thinking and innovative ideas and this is just that."

Houses, priced from £200,000 to more than £2m, will be open for viewing between 11am and 3pm.

They include new homes, Grade II listed properties and homes with equestrian facilities.

Philip James, from the Sevenoaks office, said: "Almost all of our clients have been extremely enthusiastic about the open day. They are all committed to selling and they understand that in the current climate, they need to make it easy for buyers to visit their home."

Prospective buyers won’t need a specific appointment and can contact either the Sevenoaks Strutt and Parker office on 01732 459900 or the Canterbury office on 01227 451123 to receive a pass ticket.
