Jobs created as Morrisons moves into Margate

Dozens of new jobs will be served up when Morrisons moves into Margate.

The country’s fourth largest supermarket chain has taken over the town’s Somerfield store in Hawley Street and plans to re-brand the shop later this year.

The move will create up to 75 new jobs, ranging from butchers to fresh food assistants and department managers to supervisors. Successful applicants will team-up with former Somerfield staff who will join Morrisons when the store is handed over.

Gail Roberts, retail recruitment manager at Morrisons, said: “We’ve had a lot of interest in these job opportunities and for many people this will be the first step in their career with Morrisons.

“We’re looking forward to building up an enthusiastic team that can provide great fresh food, value and service to the people of Margate.”

Morrisons, which already operates eight stores in Kent, is holding a recruitment event at the Old Town Hall, Market Street, Margate, this Sunday and Monday (March 29 and March 30). Both sessions start at 10am and finish at 4pm and 7pm respectively.
