Easter concert at St Nicholas Church in Sevenoaks High Street

An Easter concert will be performed at a church in Sevenoaks this weekend.

The Lydian Orchestra will welcome back Ethan Merrick as conductor for the show at St Nicholas Church in the High Street on Saturday.

Mr Merrick was invited to join the Lydian team as a young cellist 30 years ago whilst at the Judd School in Tonbridge.

He continued on to study at Oxford University and gained a teaching qualification at Cambridge. He then extended his cello studies and turned professional musician whilst in Scotland.

Mr Merrick has also played with the Kentish Opera and the Tunbridge Wells Symphony Orchestra.

Returning to conduct the Lydian Concert this year he said: "Working with the hugely talented members of this orchestra is always a pleasure, whether in their roles as orchestral players, soloists, composers, conductors, orchestral representatives or managers”.

The concert will begin at 7.30pm. Tickets are available on the door at a cost of £12 which includes a programme and glass of wine.

Entry for under 18s costs £5. Tickets can be purchased in advance by clicking here.

The Lydian Orchestra was founded 40 years ago to give talented young musicians in West Kent the opportunity to play together.

It is the players themselves who organise the orchestra.

Like this concert’s conductor, past players have gone on to achieve professional careers and some current members are already high profile soloists.

The Lydian 40th Anniversary celebratory concert will be held at Sevenoaks School Pamoja Hall on Sunday, July 17.
