Men and women braved the cold to raise money for a children’s ward by holding a bikini car wash.

A group of four guys and five girls raised £797.44 at Brambledown Farm Shop on Sunday.

Money was also collected through a raffle, while employees at Shiny Hand Car Wash who work there donated their wages for the day.

Amber Harding and her fiance Adrian Swift organised the gathering because their 10-month-old daughter Amelia was treated at the Oliver Fisher neonatal intensive care unit after a difficult birth.

They are donating the money to the Medway Maritime Hospital ward, in Gillingham, in gratitude.

Miss Harding, of Second Avenue, Rushenden, said: “We did so well. It’s more than I thought we would raise, especially with the weather being
so poor.

“The sun didn’t come out once and it was cold, mainly due to the wind.”

The 31-year-old added that some people shied away from having their cars washed but still gave money anyway. Members of Sheppey-based car club Japworx, to which Mr Swift belongs, also made an appearance.
