Staff at the Sheppey Healthy Living Centre are astonished at a 'human magpie’ that keeps stealing from them.

In the last few weeks, toilet rolls, chairs, ashtrays and even a bottle of burger sauce, have gone missing.

The final straw came when a giant poster for the film No Country for Old Men was put up, and within less than 24 hours had disappeared.

Niki Verdenik, community learning coordinator at the centre, said: “The weirdest things get taken from the centre, and chairs from the Waterfront cafe have even disappeared during the day.

“Things from the centre have been going missing for weeks but it’s a joke when you can’t even put a poster on the wall without it being taken.

“It’s like we’ve got a human magpie – but we are a charity and we have to pay for all these things. It’s outrageous.”

The thefts haven’t been reported to the police, but staff would like to make the culprits aware that they do know it is going on and everyone is on the lookout.

Niki added: “The laughable thing is, if they had asked us politely for the poster, we would have given it to them when we had finished with it.”
