It was launched on Saturday at Holy Trinity Church Hall in Sheerness and around 150 people went along.

Rev Chris Shipley led a service before people could place poppies and crosses in the Garden of Remembrance.

Bacon rolls, tea and coffee were served and there was a Royal British Legion (RBL) stall as well as bric-a-brac.

Altogether it raised almost £300 to launch this year’s fundraising.

Treasurer of the Sheppey RBL branch Mike Sanger said: “It went very well.

“People were very generous and the weather was very kind to us.

“We were very pleased.”

Poppies will be on sale across the Island until Saturday, November 9, and a service will take place through Sheerness on Remembrance Sunday.
