Man arrested after fatal stabbing

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a stabbing incident in a Kent town late last night.

Police and paramedics were called to Sheerness High Street, near The Goat pub, just before midnight.

Two men had stab wounds. Both were taken to hospital, but one, an 18-year-old local man, died later.

The other man, a 29-year-old from Sheerness, remains in a serious condition.

Big crowds gathered around the crime scene, which was still cordoned off this morning, while police combed the area for evidence.

A man is currently in police custody.

Det Ch Insp Jon Bumpus said: "We know that there were other people in the area when the incident happened. The man we have in custody we believe was one of group of at least four people.

"I am appealing for anyone who was there or who has information about people who were there to contact our incident room on 01795 419 201."

People can also contact Crimestoppers, free and confidentially, on 0800 555111.
