Small Business Saturday takes place today.

It’s designed to encourage people to shop locally and participating traders will be offering a tempting array of free treats to entice visitors.

Mince pies, sweets and “Small Business Saturday discounts” will be available in stores across Swale.

A “free after two” parking scheme will also be operating at all Swale council pay and display sites.

This runs daily from 2pm until Tuesday, December 24.

There will also be free all-day parking at all council car parks on Sunday, December 8, 15 and 22.

A number of festive activities take place today.

Market barrows will be on display around the clock tower in Sheerness town centre.

The day will be rounded off with a Christmas Lantern Parade.

Participants are asked to meet at Beachfields Park, off Bridge Road, Sheerness, at 4pm, after which the illuminations in the High Street will be switched on by Mayor of Swale, Cllr Sue Gent.

A section of the road, from the Clock Tower to Victory Street, will be closed off to traffic.
