Youngsters get taste of the press

Hold the front page – these young journalists proudly show off the first edition of their school newspaper.

Inspired by a visit to the Kent Messenger’s presses in Larkfield during the summer the youngsters at Halfway Houses Primary School got their notepads and pens out and started gathering material for their own paper.

They watched the first copies of “From the School Doors”, which will come out three times a year, being printed last week.

Four hundred copies were rolled off the school copier which will be sold to children and staff for 10p.

The money will be used to produce further editions of the paper which has school news, teacher interviews, details on local events, and lists all the reporters with their pictures.

School secretary Sheila McGee said: “They really enjoyed putting it together and have been really keen and enthusiastic.”
